Voronin

A label for a 70th jubilee, made to honor a man and the land his wines come from.

About

Voronin is a family producer of signature beverages in Ukraine, from wines made with different grapes and berries to chacha, a grape spirit often called Georgian vodka and similar to Italian grappa. For Mr. Voronin’s 70th jubilee, the family commissioned a commemorative label. Everything on it was created for the occasion: a portrait in the style of commemorative engraving, a watercolor of the Ukrainian countryside painted in his favorite technique, the family name, the VO monogram, and a medallion that brings them together. The label was designed as a single piece for the whole range, so one print run serves every bottle.

An engraving for a jubilee

For Mr. Voronin’s 70th jubilee, his family commissioned a label to mark the occasion: a personal piece, made for a family milestone rather than a store shelf. The portrait at its center is drawn in the style of line engraving, the technique behind the portraits on banknotes, stamps and commemorative medals, where the face is built entirely from lines and tone comes from their weight and spacing. It is the visual language traditionally reserved for people being honored, and it gives the label a sense of permanence and dignity. The pose was composed specifically for the piece from several reference photos: a three-quarter view, the gaze set ahead and a slight smile, portraying a man who looks forward with contentment.

A portrait that honors a life’s work while looking ahead to the years still to come.
