Rocking Sixty Six

One painting, one ranch mark and four printed pieces, built for a private cigar line.

About

Rocking Sixty Six is a private cigar line created for a horse ranch in the highlands of Panama, made from Panamanian tobacco and shared with guests as a piece of the ranch itself. The name comes from the ranch’s brand iron, the 66 resting on a rocker, used to mark its horses. The project built the line’s packaging around two elements: a central painting of a rider and his white horse between the mountains of Colorado and the highlands of Panama, and the ranch mark, redrawn for print. Together they run across four pieces, the cigar ring, the inside lid art, the outside box sticker and the warranty seal, each adapted to its own format from a single visual system.

Building the composition

The project started from the discovery call, with the client’s history translated into a set of symbols and a first composition. Digital sketches were brought to the kickoff meeting to be discussed and corrected before any final artwork began. Each version refined the balance between the central scene, the medallions and the lettering.

Direction confirmed with the client before painting began, so the final artwork needed no structural changes.
